Wanhua Chemical recently planned to build ethylene and downstream projects
On December 21, Guangxi and the State Power Investment Group Co., Ltd. held a "cloud meeting" meeting on the construction of Fangchenggang Bailong Nuclear Power Project and the "Fangchenggang Municipal People's Government State Power Investment Group Co., Ltd." Jointly promote the signing of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project Construction Cooperation Agreement.
The Bailong Nuclear Power Project is located at the southernmost tip of Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang City. The site construction conditions are superior and it is my country’s scarce nuclear power plant site strategic resource. The project plans to use the "Guohe" series of third-generation nuclear power technology and plans to build six million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power units with a total investment of approximately 120 billion yuan. Recently, Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd. issued an announcement on foreign investment. The company plans to invest 17.6 billion yuan to build a 1.2 million tons/year ethylene and downstream high-end polyolefin project to realize the industrialization of independently developed high-end polyolefin products such as polyolefin elastomers (POE) and differentiated special materials. The announcement shows that my country's ethylene industry's downstream high-end products rely heavily on imports, of which high-end polyolefin products such as POE and differentiated special materials are 100% dependent on imports. After years of independent technology development, Wanhua Chemical has fully mastered the relevant technologies. The company plans to implement ethylene dioxide in Yantai Industrial ParkThe first phase of the project is to build a 1.2 million tons/year ethylene and downstream high-end polyolefin project, forming efficient synergy with the company's existing propane dehydrogenation (PDH) integrated project and the first phase of the ethylene project.
According to the plan, the second phase of the project covers an area of about 1,215 acres and will mainly build a 1.2 million tons/year ethylene cracking unit, a 250,000 tons/year low-density polyethylene (LDPE) unit, and 2× 200,000 tons/year POE unit, 200,000 tons/year butadiene unit, 550,000 tons/year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit (including 30,000 tons/year styrene extraction), 400,000 tons/year aromatics extraction unit and supporting ancillary works and public facilities. The project has been approved by the Shandong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and is expected to be put into production in October 2024.
